Abstract

1,182,632. Roll coverings. FLUORODYNAMICS Inc. 26 June, 1967, Nc. 29365/67. Heading B5A. Heat-shrinkable roll coverings may be produced from thermoplastic material by forming a tube thereof, e.g. by extrusion or rolling up a sheet, sealing the end sections thereof, inserting the tube within a cylindrical former, heating the tube and former within a heating chamber, applying fluid pressure to expand the tube to conform with the cylindrical former and cooling the tube. The tube may then be passed over the roll and shrunk thereonto by heating. The material may be a perfluorocarbon polymer, e.g. FEP, heated to 170‹ F. The apparatus, Fig. 1, comprises a chamber 14 having a hollow jacket 17 therearound for heating and cooling media. The chamber may contain one or more cylindrical formers 24 containing tubes to be expanded by air supplied via pipes 29.
