Abstract

1,181,877. Foam breaking apparatus. MIXING EQUIPMENT CO. Inc. 22 May, 1967, No. 23651/67. Heading B1M. Apparatus for breaking up foam in a vessel comprises an impeller 30 rotatable about a vertical axis and positioned in the gas space above the foam so that it induces an upward current 54 of gas and foam and throws the foam residue laterally with insufficient velocity to cause regeneration of the foam on impact with the walls of the container or the remaining mass of foam 52. The impeller comprises a horizontal disc and vertical flat blades extending therefrom either radially or swept back. Two or more impellers may be used in a single vessel.
