Abstract

1,181,065. Load cells. C.D. BOADLE and R.A. ATKIN [trading as WESTERN PRECISION EQUIPMENT] Feb.8, 1967 [Feb. 9, 1966], No.5690/66. Heading G1N. A load cell comprises four strain gauge resistors 6 Fig. 1 mounted on a steel beam 2 supported at two knife edges 4, 5. The load is applied via a button 12 and rod 16 to a plate 10 supported on the beam 2 by a further two knife edges 7, 8. The unit is located in a sealed box 18 with the button 12 centrally in the lid, supported by a diaphragm 14. A second diaphragm may be provided at the bottom of the cell body. The inside of the housing 18 is vented to the atmosphere through a dust filter 22, a moisture difuser comprising a long small-bore tube 24, and a drying agent. The strain gauges are connected in a bridge network.
