Abstract
1,180,891. Organo-platinum compounds. MOBIL OIL CORP. 18 March. 1968 [19 June, 1967 (2)], No. 12932/68. Heading C2J. [Also in Division C7] Zeise's acid, H(C 2 H 4 PtCl 3 ) is made by mixing NaCl with chloroplatinic acid in water, evaporating to dryness, adding absolute ethanol evaporating to dryness, adding absolute ethanol, refluxing overnight, filtering and diluting the filtrate with ethanol to give an alcoholic solution of Zeise's acid. Neutralization of the acid gives Zeise's compound, 1,3-bis-(ethylene)-2,4- dichloro - Á - Á - dichloroplatinum. Addition of the appropriate hydrocarbon to the solution of Zeise's acid, followed by refluxing overnight, gives the following products: (a) 1,5-cyclooctadiene platinum (II) dichloride; (b) norbornadiene platinum (II) dichloride; (c) dicyclopentadiene platinum (II) dichloride; (d) 1,5- hexadiene platinum (II) dichloride; (e) 2.5- dimethyl - 1,5 - hexadiene platinum (II) dichloride. The compounds (a) to (e) may be used, in a suitable solvent such as trichloroethane, and with reduction by H 2 gas, for the electroless deposition of Pt on a substrate.
