Abstract

[Also in Division F1] A turbine blade is made by forming a diffusion-inhibiting layer on the surface of a heatresistant insert and mechanically anchoring the coated insert in the body of the blade which is made of a scale-resistant material. The insert is preferably of high melting-point metal, e.g. molybdenum, tungsten, niobium, tantalum or an alloy of these metals, coated with a diffusioninhibiting layer of oxides of thorium, calcium or aluminium. The coating is applied by electrophoresis from a glutinous suspension. The scale resistant material may be chromiumnickel applied to the insert in molten form or pressed in powder form and sintered. The insert and the body are held together by beads, projections, depressions, notches or holes in the inserts. More than one insert may be used in one blade, preferably at the positions where the highest stresses occur.
