Abstract

[Also in Division C7] A vitreous article is coated with polyethylene by vapouring solid polyethylene and allowing it to condense on the article. A layer of metal oxide, such as tin oxide, may be deposited first, suitably by exposing the surface of the article, appropriately heated, to the vapour of a heat-decomposable tin compound, such as stannous chloride, stannic chloride, stannous fluoride, diethyl isobutyl tin or di-isopropyl tin dibromide.
