Abstract

1,179,084. Carbon black preparations. CIBA Ltd. 21 Feb., 1968 [21 Feb., 1967], No. 8414/68. Headings C3F and C3P. A solid preparation consists of carbon black having an oil-absorption of at most 100 ml./g. and a specific surface of at least 100 m.<SP>2</SP>/g. and one or more high molecular weight organic compounds other than rubber as carrier substance. The preparation may be prepared by mechanically working the carbon black and carrier substance in the presence of a grinding assistant which is subsequently removed. The grinding assistant may be a water-soluble salt such as sodium chloride. The process may be carried out in an organic medium at room temperature or at an elevated temperature. The carrier substances exemplified are (1) a copolymer of acrylonitrile and vinyl acetate, (2) a copolymer of vinyl chloride and vinyl acetate, (3) acetyl cellulose and (4) ethyl cellulose. The preparations may be used to pigment spinning solutions, inks, lacquers or paints.
