Abstract

1,178,247. Coated footwear socks. DUNLOP CO. Ltd. 17 Aug., 1967 [18 Aug., 1966], No. 36950/66. Heading B2K. In a method of proofing socks for use in the manufacture of footwear, the sock is mounted on a former and a liquid proofing composition is applied to the outer surface of the sock by pouring. The sock may be of a knitted fabric. During the pouring the former may be substantially horizontal and rotated at its longitudinal axis so that the sock is coated all round. The proofing composition may be applied by supplying it to a tray and allowing it to pour over an edge of the tray in a cascade. The method may be continuous, the sock being mounted on one of a series of formers carried by a conveyor. The proofing composition may comprise natural rubber compositions.
