Abstract

1,177,548. Pharmaceutical C.N.S.-depressant compositions. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 29 Nov., 1968 [28 Nov., 1967], No. 54124/67. Heading A5B. [Also in Division C2] Pharmaceutical composition, possessing central nervous depressant activity and suitable for oral or parenteral administration, contain as active ingredients at least one of the novel amides of the formula wherein A is O or -NH-; R<SP>1</SP> and R<SP>2</SP>, which may be the same or different, are alkyl radicals, provided that R<SP>1</SP> and R<SP>2</SP> together contain at least 3 carbon atoms; R<SP>3</SP> and R<SP>4</SP>, which may be the same or different, are H or alkyl, or R<SP>3</SP> is H and R<SP>4</SP> is OH or NH 2 ; and the benzene ring X may optionally bear one or more substituents, selected from halogen, alkyl and alkoxy or for those compounds in which A is -NH- or R<SP>4</SP> is NH 2 and addition salts thereof, and, if desired, one or more drugs selected from neuroleptic agents, for example chlorpromazine, prochlorperazine, trifluorperazine and haloperidol, other sedative drugs and tranquilizers, for example chlordiazepoxide, phenobarbitone, amylobarbitone, anticonvulsent drugs, for example primidone and phenytoin, #-adrenergic blocking agents, for example propranolol, drugs used in the treatment of Parkinson's disease, for example benzhexol, and antidepressant drugs, for example imipramine, desipramine amitriptyline, nortriptyline, drugs of the amphetamine type and monoamineoxidase inhibitors, for example phenelzine and mebanazine, in association with a pharmaceutically-acceptable diluent or carrier therefor.
