1,176,336. Hydrogenation catalyste. E. I. DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO. 21 Dec., 1966 [23 Dec., 1965 (3)], No. 57277/66. Heading B1E. [Also in Division C2] A process for preparing an alkali-moderated ruthenium metal catalyst supported on Al 2 O 3 , BaSO 4 , or Kieselguhr comprises mixing at least 1 % of a basic alkali metal compound with the Ru and heating at 40-300‹. The alkali metal compound may be an oxide, hydroxide, carbonate, bicarbonate or alkoxide of Na or K. The Ru source may be a compound in which Ru forms either anion or cation e.g. RuCl 2 or Na RuO 4 . The alkali metal may be added in aqueous or organic solvents.
