Mowing apparatus comprises two or more horizontal discs 7 arranged to be rotated synchronously in opposite directions. Each disc has one or two helical edge portions defined by slits 8 into which the adjacent disc slides. Radial knife blades 12 are attached to the lowest point of each helical portion and are arranged to meet the adjacent disc about mid-way along a helical portion.
