[Also in Division A3] A machine for attaching pronged fastener members of garment fastening devices to garment material e.g. a make-up pocket in a trouser waistband, comprises downwardly facing upper lies (38), (38), Fig. 7 (not shown), and upwardly facing lower dies 50, 50 which are movable upwards by plungers 51, 51. In operation the upper dies are located in a pivotable arm 36a and are loaded with back-plates 11 from stacks 84, 84 by a reciprocable feed slide (86), Fig. 5 (not shown), and are held in position by a blade spring 47. The lower die is fed by a vibrating drum 76 and a channel 75 with pronged fastener members such that the prongs face upward. From the channel the pronged members pass through a transfer slot partly curved by a locating spring blade 80 in a fined guide plate 81 and are fed automatically into die recesses 66, 66 each time the latter is emptied and the die returns to the loading position. A spring biased jaw member 69 holds the pronged members in position during upward movement, and is released by engagement with a cam 70. When the dies are loaded arm 36 is pulled down via a chain 42 and the made up pocket is slipped on to it. The arm is then released and re-engages under frame portion 37. Plungers 51, 51 are now operated via levers 99, 99 so that the attachment operation is completed. As a safety device, a control valve 100 has to be operated simultaneously with plungers 51, 51. In a modification the arm 36 may be slidably mounted on vertical guide posts or pins towards its inner end. In a further embodiment, Figs. 9 and 10, (not shown), back plates are retained in an upper die (200) by a spring loading finger (205). Instead of an arm for supporting the garment material a flat platform (220) extends forwardly and is pivoted by rearwardly extending arms to a fixed head part. The platform is also guided by a hinged depending skirt panel (222). Movement of a vertical plunger (214) is controlled simultaneously by a lever arrangement which is connected to the plunger that operates the feed stroke for the back plates. Thus only one control movement initiates a full cycle of operation.
