[Also in Division C5] Catalysts comprising 0.05-5 wt% of a noble metal or mixture of noble metals selected from Pt, Pd, Rh, Ir and Rn on a carrier selected from alumina, aluminosilicates and mixed oxides of aluminium with nickel or cobalt, are activated by the following steps:- (a) calcining in a current of air at 300- 600‹C for ¢-10 hours. (b) heating to 300-600‹C in a current of hydrogen for ¢-24 hours, and (c) heating to 300-600‹C in a current of steam for “-10 hours.
