Abstract

1,174,847. Ion-exchange. BORGERUD MFG. CO. Inc. 18 Sept., 1967, No. 42390/67. Heading B1J. In a softening operation valves 161 and 162 are closed and pistons 82 and 112 assume positions shown: Water flows from 96 into chamber 41 through to chamber 42 through passage 47 into zeolite 11; is softened- and flows via openings 15, tube 12 through chamber 45 through insert 37 and chamber 43 to soft water outlet 97. A by-pass using lever 101 is available. During regeneration valves 161 and 162 are opened and the pistons move to allow a back wash 96, 41, 40, 100, 43, 45, 12, 15, 11, 47, 42, 90 to drain 67. Brining is initiated by closing drain valve 161 which allows a flow 96, 41, 40 via a venturi passage (Fig. 3 not shown) which draws in brine 12, 15, 11, 47, 42, 90 out of drains 67 and 160. Valve 161 is now opened for another backwash and the valves 161 and 162 are closed for a repetition of the softening operation.
