Abstract

1,174,511. Spreaders for handling containers. PARATOR A.B. 22 March, 1968 [30 March, 1967], No. 13924/68. Heading B8H. [Also in Division E2] A spreader frame 1, Fig. 1, for lifting containers, has corner couplers 2 in which members 9, Fig. 4 are moved between a position in which they engage a corner fitting 31 and a disengaged position by cams 15, 16 on a member 14 when they are reciprocated by a ram 6. The latter is attached by its piston-rod 21 to the member 14 and moves the members 9 up and down through pivots 17, Fig. 5, rods 19 and a cross-head 20. Slots 3 and hoops 4 provide lifting facilities for fork-lift trucks and cranes. Stop valves 30, Fig. 8, lock the members 9 in their disengaged position until all the members are inserted. Cam arms 32 operate the valves 30 when each coupler is correctly located. Guides 5, Fig. 1, assist in locating the spreader.
