Abstract
1,174,417. Frequency multiplication or division. GRUNDIG E.M.V., ELEKTROMECHANISCHE VERSUCHSANSTALT. 23 Dec., 1966 [24 Dec., 1965], No. 57781/66. Heading G5R. A magnetic tape recording and playback arrangement for multiplying or dividing the frequency of an applied video signal comprises a drum for guiding the tape in an arcuate path 1a and a fixed head 5 and moving heads 10, 11 for respectively recording signals on and playing signals back from the tape or vice-versa. The tape is driven at a fixed speed by capstan 6 past the fixed head 5 and erasing heads 4, 12 and the driven tape rotates the divided drum 9. The two heads 10, 11 rotate in the drum gap at a speed determined by motor 16 which is independent of the tape speed. The circumference of the drum equals twice the recorded length of a unit of information, e.g. a television field. During multiplication the tape is wound from reel 2 to reel 13 and the signal is recorded by head 5 and reproduced by the heads 10, 11. During division the tape drive direction is reversed and head 5 reproduces the signal recorded by heads 10, 11.
