The description is identical to that in Specification 1,173,435, but the claims are directed to character display apparatus in which the characters are produced by selecting appropriate parts of a composite display matrix common to all characters, the matrix comprising a pattern of line segments, the whole or fractional portions of which are utilized, under the control of timing means, to form the characters.
