Abstract

[Also in Division C2] A method for treating coccidiosis in chickens and viral infections in chickens and other animals comprises administering a pharmaceutical composition containing as active ingredient a compound of the formula: wherein R represents a straight-chain alkyl group containing from 7 to 11 carbon atoms, R 1 represents a straight or branched chain alkyl group containing from 1 to 4 carbon atoms, R 2 represents a straight of branched chain alkyl group containing from 1 to 3 carbon atoms and Ac represents a saturated or unsaturated carboxylic acyl group, in association with one or more wetting suspending, dispersing, emulsifying, thickening or gelling agents with or without a physiologically innocuous carrier. They may be administered in the form of granules, pellets, suspensions, solutions or emulsions, or added as concentrates to a feedstuff, or drinking water. Such compositions may contain, if desired, anti-bacterial agents e.g. furazolidone, coccidiostats e.g. 2-chloro-4- nitro benzamide, pyridine-3-sulphonamide, sulphaquinoxaline or nitro furazone, antibiotics such as penicillin or its derivatives, or substances useful for the growth of poultry or their egg production e.g. 4-hydroxy-3-nitro phenylarsonic acid.
