Abstract

1,172,732. Monostable circuits. INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORP. 14 Feb., 1967 [10 March, 1966], No. 6981/67. Heading H3T. A monostable circuit comprises two amplifiers in feedback configuration and a timing capacitor which charges exponentially from a first voltage level towards a second level, the two voltage levels being derived from the same voltage source and being symmetrical about an intermediate voltage level determined by a current transfer long tail pair switch. As shown, a negative pulse at E to a diode OR circuit D1, D2 cuts off a saturated transistor T 1 and switches on T 3 . This, through C 1 , switches off a lightly conducting transistor T 4 of a current switching comparator T 4 , T 5 causing T 6 to conduct and saturate T 7 . The output of T 7 is fed back to the OR gate to maintain this state while C 1 charges through R 5 and Rc. When the base potential of T 4 reaches earth the transfer switch T 4 and T 5 restores, T 4 thus conducts cutting off T 7 and removing the feedback to the OR gate so that the circuit returns to its initial state. D 4 now conducts and maintains the voltage at the base of T 4 close to earth due to feedback from T 6 . During the unstable state the capacitor charges towards the same voltage as is provided the capacitor charge and as the termination of the unstable period occurs midway between the voltage levels the timing is less dependent upon the voltage levels. A capacitor C 2 maintains the charging voltage constant during the unstable period.
