Abstract

1,172,717. Type-making machines. UNITED STATES BANKNOTE CORP. 31 May, 1967 [26 July, 1966], No. 25159/67. Heading B6W. Single-type coating; matrices.-A matrix case is connected so as to hold four separate founts of, for example, nine rows and nine columns of matrices, each fount being supported on flanges of one of two outer frame members 24 and a central member 30, and being separately removable, and secured by cover-plates 92. The matrices may be supported on comb bars 58, as in United States Specification 784,245, each matrix having bar-receiving grooves 48, Fig. 6, in two opposed faces, and tooth-receiving grooves 50 in the other two faces, or may be supported on rods 86 as in United States Specification 1,533,456, each having a circular opening 84 therein. The matrices also each have a centring recess 46 in one end face and a character die in the opposite end face. If fewer than four founts are required, any remaining quadrant can be filled with a filler plate of aluminium or aluminium alloy having a central rectangular recess 76 and frusto-conical depressions 78 therearound.
