Abstract

1,172,368. Pneumatic removal of end winding or cops. W. REINERS. 29 Nov., 1966 [2 Dec., 1965], No. 53319/66. Heading D1J. A device having an air current for the pneumatic removal of an end winding from a cop includes a mechanical thread doffing device positioned within the air current, the mechanical doffing device acting in the direction of the air current and being adapted to grasp the free thread end slidingly, intermittently or continuously whilst conveying means carries the cop in a vertical, or substantially vertical, position past the mechanical doffing device. In Fig. 3 the nozzles 6 blow the end winding 2a towards the rollers 15, 16 that have interfitting parts 15', 15", 16', 16" that (a) loosely interfit to exert a sliding grasp on the thread; or (b) interfit in a manner exerting a firm grasp on the thread. The interfitting parts 15', 15", 16', 16" may be on only part of each roller in which case the rollers are geared to each other. The rollers may part company at intervals by means of a cam actuated lever 11. An upper nozzle 18 assists the removal of any end winding 2a that extends to the upper end of the cop. The supply cop is carried by a pocket 4 on a belt 3. The upper end of cop 1 may have one side in engagement with a stationary member 20 and its other side with a moving belt 19 to cause the cop to rotate in a direction assisting the unwinding of the end 2a. In Fig. 1 (not shown) the rollers 15, 16 are replaced by endless belt arrangements. The lower end of the supply cop may rest on cantilever rails, the free ends of the rails pointing in the direction in which the supply cops are carried by the pockets 4. The nozzles 6, 18 may be absent if there is a suction source below the means that mechanically grasps the thread end 2a.
