Abstract
117,163. Woosnam, A., (Ackerman Wheel Co.). Aug. 7, 1917. Strip springs.-Resilient metal strip is formed having its ends thicker than the central portion, for example by camshaped rollers, and the metal is tempered conversely so that the hardest portion is in the centre and the softest at the ends. The strip is stated to he annealed by being heated uniformly to about 1475‹ F. and quenched, after which the strip is heated to 1000‹ F. at the ends, the temperature falling at the central point to 800‹ F., after which it is again quenched. The Figure shows such a spring having a a straight root B, above which is an ogee portion C terminating in an eye A in which ferrules 7 may be inserted.
