Abstract

1,171,388. Air rectification process. CHEMIEANLAGENBAU ERFURT - RUDISLEBEN, VEB. 14 Feb., 1967, No. 7052/67. Heading F4P. All the nitrogen vapour withdrawn from the head of a high pressure air rectification column 2 through a line 1 is conveyed directly to one lateral side of the shell space of one or more vertically extending condensers 3a, 3b spaced from column 2, and from which condenser or condensers liquid nitrogen is withdrawn and returned through a line 6 to the column 2 as reflux whilst the remaining uncondensed nitrogen is withdrawn from the condenser or condensers at the side opposite said one side and is passed to further apparatus, e.g. an additional condenser, to effect further purification. The tube spaces of the condensers 3a, 3b are traversed by liquid oxygen withdrawn from a low pressure column 4 through a line 5, the resulting oxygen vapour being returned to the column 4 through lines 8.
