Abstract
1,171,082. Momentary contact switches. F. P. WILLCOX. 22 March, 1968, No. 13999/68. Heading H1N. On depression of plunger 26 to the full line position a contact carrying tongue 38 of spring 14 snaps over centre from its rest position in contact with mounting plate 34 to the full line position and travels beyond this position to contact bus-bar 16, and thereafter vibrates about this full line position to make several successive contacts with bus-bar 16. After about 10 milliseconds, the vibrations damp out and tongue 38 comes to rest in the full line position. On release of plunger 26, spring 14 returns it to its normal position and tongue 38 snaps back into abutment with plate 34. Several plungers 26 and springs 14 are arranged in a keyboard in staggered rows, a bus-bar 16 being provided for each row (Fig. 1), and control printers, typewriters &c. through semi-conductor or solid state devices, the current pulses triggering such devices. Snap action of spring 14, of phosphor bronze, is provided by forming a depression (40, Fig. 8) in the mounting end. The contact chattering provides a wiper action which improves self-cleaning.
