1,170,594. Safety-device for a verticallymovable door. E. HILL ALDAM & CO. Ltd. 30 June, 1967 [11 July, 1966], No. 31063/66. Heading E2M. A safety lock device for a vertically-movable door suspended by one or more chains, ropes, cables, wires or like elements 14 passing over a corresponding number of sprockets (or pul leys) 12 and supporting one or more counterweights 16, is characterized in that at least one of the sprockets has a projection from the hub (extension 32 and block 34) and a locking member 40 is biassed to move into the path of movement described by the projection when the sprocket rotates, thereby locking the sprocket against further rotation, and is further characterized in that the locking member is prevented from making such movement by the normal tension of the element 14 but is free to make such movement when the tension falls below normal. The locking members may be biassed by spring means 50 and may comprise a slipper block 52. The said locking members are generally triangular and may be pivotally carried (on shafts 38) by plate 28 which also carries the sprocket shaft 30.
