Abstract

1,170,511. Computer. SIEMENS A.G. 3 Jan., 1967 [3 Jan., 1966], No. 406/67. Heading G4A. [Also in Division G3] A computing apparatus programmed to ascertain from a model of a process such as a steel making process and from sets of values of a plurality of measurable parameters of the process, those values of a controlling parameter of the process necessary to produce a desired process conduct, the computing apparatus being operable cyclically and in each cycle of which a new set of measurement values is to be supplied to the computing apparatus wherein the apparatus comprises a store having no more than forty available storage spaces for each parameter to be measured and in which store, on feeding in a new set of measured values in each cycle, the oldest set of measured values will be erased, a computer operable to ascertain from the stored values and by mathematical regression the coefficients of the model of the process, the computer redetermining the coefficients upon the introduction of each new set of values into the store, and means for deriving the necessary value for the controlling parameter from these coefficients each time the coefficients are redetermined. The computer ascertains the coefficients by the method of least squares and selects from the store the values of a predetermined number of the measurable parameters selected such that their stored values give the least scatter between the calculated and actual values of the controlling parameter.
