Abstract

1,170,449. Cushions &c. MINISTER OF TECHNOLOGY. 28 June, 1967 [28 June, 1966], No. 28882/66. Heading A4M. A cushion or seat comprises a hollow container with a flexible, gas permeable portion, tie members between opposing walls and a filling of substantially incompressible hollow or solid spheroids made from or coated with a low friction material. The spheroids may be of p.t.f.e., polystyrene, glass or metal and the coating may be of p.t.f.e. In one embodiment the container comprises two, peripherally joined canvas layers. Alternatively, the container comprises an open box with a base and three side walls, the fourth, open side and top being covered with a canvas sheet after filling of the container. The tie members may comprise threads extending between the base and the canvas sheet. Forced ventilation may be supplied through pipes in the container. In one application the cushion pad is filled between a limb stump and an artificial limb. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 1,088,405.
