The U-shaped heel stiffener 11 of the parent Specification is modified by the addition of an upstanding peg or projection 15 which serves to tension the heel wall or quarter C along the top line B of the shoe. The projection 15 is inclined rearwardly and pulls the quarters C so that the top line edges B are drawn towards each other and define straight lines converging towards the projection 15. The U-shaped strip 11 and projection 15 may be integral and may be made of an acetal resin material. .
