Abstract
1,169,957. Printing formes. AGFA-GEVAERT A.G. 21 April, 1967 [4 May, 1966], No. 18385/67. Heading B6C. [Also in Division G2] Printing formes are prepared by exposing to infra-red radiation, an original whose image parts absorb infra-red light, a receptor layer, and a supported layer containing a sublimable dye and, as binding agent, a polycarbonate obtained from a diphenylolalkane; the three layers are in contact during exposure and are then separated so that dye corresponding to the image parts is transferred to the receptor layer which can serve as a printing forme for use in thermographic copying. The dyes preferably sublime at 140-180‹ C. and correspond to those used in Specification 951,987; the dyed layer, of thickness 10 to 20Á. preferable also contains a plasticizer to loosen the cohesion of the layer, and a further synthetic plastic, e.g. P.V.A. to improve adhesion of transferred dye to the receptor sheer. The dyer layer is also preferably preheated to 120‹ C. before exposure. The exemplified polycarbonate is obtained from 2,2-bis-(hydroxyphenyl) propane.
