Abstract

1,167,787. Grinding; applications of optical apparatus; lathes. C. BOURGEOIS. 14 June, 1967 [14 March, 1967], No. 27499/67. Headings B3B, B3D and B3T. An optical profile machining instrument has: (a) a table micrometrically movable relative to a lens and carrying a headstock and a tailstock holding a workpiece, (b) an optical system comprising a light source, said lens, light transmitting means and a screen bearing a pattern of the desired shape to be given to the piece on which is formed an enlarged image of the piece, and (c) means for moving machining means transversally and longitudinally relative to the workpiece. The workpiece is mounted for rotation between centres 8, 9 of a headstock 6 and a tailstock 7 on a table 2 adjustable longitudinally of a base 1 by a micrometer screw actuated by a hand wheel 3. A light source 15 is carried by an arm 16<SP>1</SP> having a block 17<SP>1</SP> with a female way 18 for engagement with a male way on the machine housing. A mirror 16 carried by an arm 17 reflects the light beam from the source 15 on to the workpiece, the beam thus entering a member 19 comprising an objective 20 and a reflecting prism 21. The beam is then reflected by mirrors 22, 23 on to a screen 24 bearing a pattern. The member 19 is carried by a slide 28 movable transversely, on a support column 29, 30, e.g. by a micrometer screw actuated by a hand wheel 31. A grinding wheel 33, driven by a belt 37 from an electric motor, is mounted on a support 46 angularly adjustable on a carriage 45 movable longitudinally and transversely of the machine by fine feed means actuated by hand wheels 43, 40, respectively. The grinding wheel may be replaced by another tool in another machine, e.g. a lathe.
