Abstract

1,167,491. Beds. VONO Ltd. 28 March, 1967 [19 Jan., 1966], No. 2417/66. Heading A4J. A hospital bed comprises a mattress frame 10 pivoted at 18 to a support frame 19 connected by a parallel motion linkage 26, 30 to a base frame 21, and the support frame 19 is raised and lowered by a hydraulic ram 33 acting diagonally of the parallel linkage 26, 30. The cylinder 33 of the ram is connected by a flexible tube 37 to a pump 36 which is secured to the underside of the support frame 19 and which is either operated by foot or by a handle 43 projecting beyond the foot of the bed. The fluid pressure is controlled by a valve 45 actuated by a Bowden cable 47 connected to a hand grip 46 at the foot of the bed. A box section beam 38 extending across the support frame 19 serves as a reservoir for the hydraulic fluid. The mattress frame 10 is supported in tilted position by a U-shaped strut 48 having its cross bar 50 pivoted to the mattress frame and having its legs 49 slidable in holes in the ends of a tube 51 which is rotatably mounted on the support frame 19. Two locking sleeves 53 are slidably mounted on the tube 51 and are adapted to engage notches 52 in the strut 48. The locking sleeves are actuated by Bowden cables 57 attached to a crosstube (58) movably supported in brackets at the food end of the mattress frame. Side rails (62) are detachably secured to the mattress frame. A head bow 13 is slidably mounted in the side members 11 of the mattress frame 10. A pillow rest 15 is pivoted to the head bow 13. A pair of supporting frames 17 are pivoted to the foot bow 16.
