Abstract

1,166,742. Polyurethane coatings. FARBENFABRIKEN BAYER A.G. 28 April, 1967 [4 May, 1966], No. 19733/67. Headings B2E 'and B2K. Articles are coated by first applying to the surface of the article a lacquer comprising a physically drying binder and including a catalyst for a isocyanate polyaddition process and then applying thereto a polyurethane lacquer which is free from catalyst. The catalyst may be present from 0.1 ,to 10% by weight of the binder. The lacquer first applied may form a coating 5 to 30 Á thick. The article may be of metal e.g. aluminium or iron; asbestos cement, leather, rubber, paper; glass, stone, synthetic resin, wood and cardboard. The lacquers may be applied by spraying, dipping, rolling or casting. The physically drying lacquer may be of cellulose ester or ether, or polymers or copolymers of vinyl acetate, vinyl chloride, or vinyl acetal which may be partly saponified and may still contain free hydroxyl groups or polyvinyl butyral. Examples of suitable catalysts are given.
