Abstract

The mechanical strength of an elongate ferrous workpiece is improved by twisting it, without giving rise to any substantial dimensional deformations, at a temperature substantially higher than room temperature but substantially below the metal's recrystallization temperature. The preferred temperature range is 200-400‹ C., particularly 300‹ C.
