Abstract
1,165,957. Ice making. B. STERNER. 10 Feb., 1967 [15 Feb., 1966], No. 6408/67. Heading F4H. An ice tray grid has at least one extensible longitudinal wall to which handles are pivoted for stretching and raising the grid to remove ice blocks. As illustrated, a one-piece grid is formed with transverse walls 5 and two longitudinal walls 4 which are of zig-zag form and which have thin portions 8 to allow of extension. Handles 15 pivoted to the walls 4 at 14 have projections 17 which, when the handles are raised, engage tray flanges 2 to raise and stretch the grid. In the inoperative position the handles 15 rest on raised portions 16 of two of the transverse walls. The walls are formed of a plastics material or of thin sheet metal. In other embodiments, Figs. 3-6 (not shown), there may be a single longitudinal wall of zig-zag form with two or four transverse walls to each undulation of the zig-zag wall, and the transverse walls may carry additional short walls to form further ice block compartments. The grid walls need not form a one-piece structure, and the longitudinal walls may be made of rubber.
