Abstract
1,165,920. Fluid pressure control valves &c. PAN AMERICAN PETROLEUM CORP. 30 Dec., 1966, No. 58449/66. Heading F2V. A valve, for controlling fluid flow from a well, comprises a mandrel 12, a housing 16, removably fixed within it, and a sleeve 26 which carries a piston 33 and is slidably mounted within the housing, the mandrel, housing and sleeve being apertured as at 14, 22 and 29 respectively. A source of fluid pressure, controlled from outside the valve, is applied to the uppermost part of a solid portion 27 of the sleeve 26, thereby retaining the valve-components in the position shown in which fluid flows in the direction of the arrows from within the housing to a space enclosed between the mandrel and well tubing 11. Upon removal of this pressure source, pressure of the controlled fluid raises the sleeve 26, which thus closes ports 22 in the housing, and also piston 33 which then seats at 32, the arrangement being such that ports 22 are fully closed before the piston is seated. The upper end of the housing is provided with a series of longitudinal slots 17 circumferentially spaced thus allowing the outside diameter to be reduced by a force applied externally of the housing when it is desired to remove the latter.
