Abstract
1,164,751. Abrading. MASCHINENFABRIK ZUKERMANN K.G. 5 March, 1968 [8 March, 1967], No. 10693/68. Heading B3D. An abrasion wheel for abrading profiled workpieces comprises an air or gas filled toroidal hollow body 3 of elastic material fixed on a hub 1, the body having an outer wall which carries an endless abrasive belt 18 and is connected by side walls 5, 6 to two hub rings 4 axially spaced from one another on the hub, the rings being airtightly connected to one another by an intermediate ring 9 having an air or gas inlet pipe 11 and valve 12, and support plates 14 fixed on the hub and against which the side walls of the body may bear. The outer wall of the body is from 0À1 to 2 mm. thick and merges into the side walls 5, 6 which increase in thickness towards the hub rings 4. The rings are joined by rabbeted edges 7 to the intermediate ring 9 which has an orifice 10 connected by the pipe 11 to valve 12 so that the body can be inflated to a pressure of 1 to 1À5 atmospheres. The support plates 14 are secured by bolts 15 to the hub and have circumferentially spaced cut-outs 16 for securring bands 17 attached to the abrasive belt 18. Edge regions of the belt project above shaped corners 3a of the body.
