Abstract

1,163,668. Orienting articles. AUTOMATION DEVICES Inc. 23 March, 1967 [25 March, 1966], No. 13788/67. Heading B8S. Articles having one end hollow fall down shoot 32, and down channels 24, 44, 46 to rest on pin 110. The latter forms part of and is carried by rotor 25 rotatably driven by cylinder 16 about a horizontal axis via rack and pinion 85, 81. Channel 46 is carried by rotor 42 having shaft 54, the ratchet disc 66 of which is positioned by balls 102. Rotor 42 rotates through 180 degrees. Operation.-Suppose that the flat end of the article rests on pin 110. As rotor 25 rotates due to operation of cylinder 16 the article, slips undisplaced, till channel 44 is brought beneath it; whereupon the article falls through said channel and is discharged flat-end-downwards down shoot 36. Suppose that the hollow end of the article rests on pin 110. As rotor 25 rotates, the article grips pin 110 to cause rotor 42 likewise to rotate and when the rotors stop after 180 degrees the article falls flat end downwards into shoot 36 so that all articles are uniformly oriented.
