Abstract
1,163,481. Making rotary anodes; improving physical properties. METALLWERK PLANSEE A.G. 26 July, 1967 [9 Sept., 1966], No. 34248/67. Headings B3A and B3V. [Also in Division H1] The rotary target of an X-ray tube is formed by rolling a full disc 4 and flow turning the margin 5 to form the shape shown. Preferably in rolling the disc 4 the direction of rolling at each pass is varied by 60 degrees. Thus all the main directions of deformation produced in forming the target lie parallel to the main surface of the disc and perpendicular to its outer edge. It is said that during deformation the crystal lattice planes in the target metal which have the densest packing of atoms, and hence greatest, wear resistance, align themselves perpendicular to the main direction of strain, and hence the outer edge of the disc is employed as the electron impact area or focal track.
