Abstract
116,306. Huntingford, E. S. March 29, 1917. Hand driving - mechanism.-A tractor for an overhead runway comprises a frame which carries a driver and is provided with two sets of running wheels adapted to travel on the flanges of the runway, and can be driven at will by hand or bv an internal-combustion engine mounted on the frame, the arrangement being such that the motoroperated mechanism when in action will not actuate the crank-handles or equivalent and associated parts of the hand-operated driving-mechanism. The frame comprises two side-members connected by transverse members c, c<1>, b, b<1>, the two latter of which serve as seat and foot-rest respectively for the driver. The members c, c<1> are connected by a pair of parallel longitudinal members d, from which depend two pairs of bars e, f supporting the crank-shaft bracket g. Two side-members h connect the bracket g and frame and support an internal-combustion engine i. The hand operating- mechanism comprises a shaft 8 mounted in the bracket g and provided with crank-handles 9 and a chain-wheel 10, the latter being connected by a chain 11 to a chain-wheel 12 mounted on and adapted to engage the shaft 7 through a ball or equivalent clutch. The driving-shaft of the engine i is in gear with a counter-shaft 15, which is connected by chain gearing and a friction clutch 19 to the shaft 7. Chain-wheels 19<c> on the outer ends of the shaft 7 are geared to chain-wheels y on the outer ends of the driving-spindles y, which gear with separate pairs of running wheels v, w. A tractor bar E is supported by two running wheels H and carries a load-supporting hook I.
