Abstract

1,163,046. Controlling hydrostatic transmission. JAEGER MACHINE CO. 26 June, 1967 [24 Aug., 1966], No. 29357/67. Heading F2D. In an hydraulic transmission in which an engine-driven variable-displacement pump 16 supplies pressure fluid to two independently controlled fixed-displacement motors 11, 14, driving, for example, the mixer drum D and a centrifugal pump 10 supplying water thereto, respectively, on a mobile cement mixer, the displacement of the pump being controlled by a piston 17 spring-biased to a maximum flow position and operated by a fluid pressure differential sensed across a manually adjustable restrictor 30 in the return line of the motor 11, a further manual forward/reverse and by-pass valve 29 controlling the motor 11, the control 35 for the motor 14 includes a sequence valve 36 which normally allows flow to line 31 but is responsive to fluid flow requirements of motor 14 to restrict or prevent flow to the motor 11 when the combined flow through motors 11 and 14 exceeds the output of the pump 16. With motor 11 operating, if a valve 40 is opened to initiate operation of motor 14, the valve 36 tends to close causing the motor 11 to slow down or stop until the pump output is increased sufficiently to bring the motor 14 up to its operating speed, when the valve 36 again opens. As shown, the control 35 for the motor 14 also includes a manually operated, shut-off valve 40, e.g. of the needle valve type, which effects the selective operation of the motor 14, a flow control valve 39 being preset to limit the maximum speed of the motor 14, e.g. to limit fluid flow through the motor to a maximum of seven gallons/minute. Again, Fig. 2 (not shown), the shut-off valve 40 is replaced by a second sequence valve (43) and an electric solenoid-operated, shut-off valve (44) included in the control line (46) of the valve (43), which line also communicates with the motor 14 return line (20a). The line (46) is also connected to the input port of the sequence valve (43) through a restrictor (47) so that, with the shut-off valve (44) closed, pressure builds up in line (46) to close valve (43) and prevent operation of motor 14 and, on opening valve (44), control pressure (46) falls allowing valve (43) to open and motor 14 to operate.
