[Also in Division Dl] A doctor blade for use in coating apparatus is in the form of a rod having circular co-axial land portions 10 spaced apart by grooves 14, the coaxial bases of which are circular, the axis 16 of said bases being spaced from and parallel to the axis 12 of the lands. In use, the thickness of coating is varied by rotating the rod about axis 12 for varying the depth of the grooves contiguous to the co-operating applicator roller.
