1,162,828. Alkali metal salts of cumene hydroperoxide. UNIVERSAL OIL PRODUCTS CO. 7 Nov., 1966 [15 Nov., 1965], No. 49763/66. Heading C2C. Alkali metal salts of cumene hydroperoxides are removed from an aqueous phase, containing also an alkali metal salt of at least one stronger organic acid, obtained by water-washing the product of the oxidation of cumene in which an alkali metal salt of cumene hydroperoxide is used as catalyst. The aqueous phase is contacted with carbon dioxide which converts the alkali metal salts to cumene hydroperoxide which is extracted from the aqueous phase with cumene. The contacting with carbon dioxide may be countercurrently at between 10‹ and 50‹ C. and the cumene extraction may be countercurrently and a flow diagram is described.
