Abstract

1,162,401. Injection-blow moulding; neck-moulds. E. P. MOSLO. 1 Aug., 1966, No. 29574/66. Heading B5A. An injection-blow moulding apparatus, Fig. 1, comprises a base 10, a support 20, laterally slidable on piston rod 22 of cylinder 21 within the support, and supporting a vertically reciprocable carrier 24 which carries the neck moulds and parison cones. Lower blow-mould halves 18, 19 and lower injection mould half 17 are mounted on the base 10, the upper mould halves 17<SP>1</SP>, 18<SP>1</SP>, 19<SP>1</SP> being individually vertically reciprocable on piston rods 14, 15, 16 respectively. The carrier 24, Fig. 3, supports a cantilevered platform 52 on which is mounted a piston motor 55 having a threaded piston rod 56. Mounted on rod 56 are a transverse cross-bar 57 and a parallel stripper bar 63 carrying stripper rings 65. Also mounted on carrier 24 is a block 45 through which the parison core 31 extends. Neck ring mould halves 92, 92<SP>1</SP> are carried by locking bars 85, 851 having pins 95, 95<SP>1</SP>, Fig. 4, mounted to converge in the vertical plane towards the front of the machine, and sliding in similarly converging guideways 97, 97<SP>1</SP> in block 45. In operation, in the position shown in Fig. 3, motor 55 is operated tending to pull core 31 to the left, but the closing pressure of the parison moulds 17, 17<SP>1</SP> overcomes this, camming the assembly to the right by means of cam faces 87, 87<SP>1</SP> fixed to the mould halves 17, 171 acting on faces 41, 411 of locking bars 85, 85<SP>1</SP>, which in turn act upon conical portion 74 of the parison core 31. After injection of the parison, mould half 17<SP>1</SP> is raised and carrier 24 is raised to an intermediate position as in Fig. 1, thereby allowing the core 31 to be retracted by motor 55 on to shoulder 50 of block 45, the neck mould halves 92, 92<SP>1</SP> remaining closed. Upon lateral transfer to a blow moulding station, other parison cores being simultaneously transferred to the injection station from the other blow moulding station, a similar camming action, by faces of the blow moulds on closing, is effected (Figs. 5, 6, not shown). The parison P is blown in the blow moulds 19, 19<SP>1</SP> by air supplied through bore 51 in block 45 and bores 83 in core 31 and out through the split 79 between end portion 78 of core 31 and the base 77 opened by depression of pivoted actuator 66 by bolt 113, Fig. 1, on blow mould base 13<SP>1</SP>. On opening the blow moulds 17, 17<SP>1</SP>, the motor 55 is reversed to open the neck ring moulds 92, 92<SP>1</SP> diverging in guideways 97, 97<SP>1</SP> by means of stripper bar 63 which also moves stripper rings 65 (also Fig. 7, not shown) to remove the blown articles from the cores 31. This mechanical stripping is also aided by air supplied through the core 31 due to cross-bar 57 striking the actuator 66, the articles being blown clear of the machine.
