Abstract

1,162,379. Mechanical surface aeration of liquids. SIMON-CARVES Ltd. 31 Oct., 1967 [4 Nov., 1966], No. 49536/66. Heading B1C. Plant for aerating industrial effluent or sewage has a rotatable surface aerator 18, and baffles 44 adjustable to vary the rate of oxygen transfer to the liquid. As shown the aeration tank 44 is circular and there are four baffles pivotable on vertical shafts 46 from a radial position to acircumferential one in which the baffle edge 68 is trailing with respect to the liquid circulation. The baffles may be adjustable manually or by means of hydraulic or electric actuators which may operate in dependence upon the flow rate through the tank 12 or the dissolved oxygen concentration therein. The baffles may be mechanically linked. In another arrangement (not depicted), the baffles may be removable, the rate of oxygen transfer depending on the number of baffles immersed. The tank discharges over an adjustable weir 14.
