The mouth of a plastics bag 16 is held open by a ring 12 of inverted trough form, the upper portion of the bag being stretched over the inside (15), outside 14 and upper (13) surfaces of the ring, see also Fig. 3 (not shown). It is stated that the frictional forces are sufficient to support the bag, which may be used e.g. for waste disposal. The ring 12 may be supported on rods 11 which fit inside the channel. A locking ring (not shown) may be used to clamp the bag against the inner or outer ring surface. A lid (not shown) may be fitted.
