Abstract

1,161,506. Electric selectors; electromagnetic devices. NIPPON TELEGRAPH & TELEPHONE PUBLIC CORP. 15 Sept., 1966 [25 March, 1966], No. 41293/66. Headings H1L and H1P. In a switching matrix the moving contacts 10 at a cross-point are held off the fixed common vertical contacts 11 by a card 16 engaging a stop finger 12; the operation of a row bar 18 (only one of two being shown in Fig. 2A) moves the cards of a row by engagement with lugs 17 away from the stop fingers permitting the stop finger of a chosen cross-point to be attracted out of the path of the card upon subsequent energization of the relevant column magnet 13, enabling closure of the cross-point contacts upon release of the row bar and return of the card; the magnet then being de-energized. Re-operation of the row bar will release the cross-point and also any other operated cross-points of that row, but not of the column of the particular cross-point. Such a feature enables an inlet to one column of the matrix to be extended to a second outlet via another cross-point in the same column, as when making an offering connection. By introducing a delay into the operation of the column magnet a row and column can be pulsed simultaneously. The fixed and moving contacts 10, 11 and the column magnet 13 and associated yoke 22 are mounted upon a vertical plastics member 14, several of which are bolted together to form the matrix. There is described a matrix (Fig. 5, not shown) in which the fixed contacts of two columns are individual to each cross-point and the moving contacts of these columns are horizontally multipled to other moving contacts in the same row to give a preselective character to the matrix. The electromagnets 19 which operate row bars 18 have cores 19 and a common yoke 25 (Fig. 6) upon which are hinged the armatures 21.
