Abstract

1,161,393. Clamping printing plates. GESTETNER Ltd. 2 May, 1967 [2 May, 1966], No. 19281/66. Heading B6C. A clamp for an offset printing plate made of paper comprises two relatively movable clamping members, one member having a plurality of pins projecting towards the second member, the arrangement being such that, when the clamp is closed, the tips of the pins are behind the clamping surface of the member not provided with pins, and the cutting edge of each pin is in the form of an incomplete loop which penetrates the paper plate but does not completely perforate it. Fig. 3 is a sectional view in which a support bracket 1 comprises two limbs 2, 3 with end plates (4), Figs. 1, 2 (not shown); at regular intervals along limb 2, which forms the lower clamping member, are a plurality of pins 5 which co-operate with recesses 13 in the upper clamping member 7 which pivots on spindles 6 under the control of operating lever 10, the clamp being biased to closed position by torsion spring 12. A plurality of plate stops 14 limit the insertion of a plate into the clamp. The cutting edge of each pin is such as would be produced by removing a portion of the conical tip and body of the pin along a plane passing through the apex of the tip.
