Abstract

1,161,053. Cracking catalyst-zeolite composite. W. R. GRACE & CO. 22 Aug., 1966 [28 Sept., 1965], No. 37580/66. Heading B1E. [Also in Division C5] A hydrocarbon cracking catalyst promoted with a zeolite is prepared by a process comprising (a) preparing a slurry of the catalyst components; (b) adding a zeolite; (c) filtering and spray drying the resulting composite; (d) washing the composite; (e) exchanging the composite with a solution of rare earth metal salts, the solution having a pH of 4.0 to 5.5 and (f) washing and drying the product. The catalyst may be silica-alumina, optionally diluted with up to 40% clay (exemplified) or silica-zirconia, silica-magnesia, silica-aluminamagnesia or acid-treated clay. The zeolite may have SiO 2 :Al 2 O 3 ratio 2.5 to 6.9:1; zeolite X is exemplified. The rare earth metals may provide 3% to 4% rare earth oxides in the composite. The zeolite may form 6% to 10% of the product.
