Abstract

1,160,825. Fluid pulse shapers. CORNING GLASS WORKS. May 8, 1967 [May 16, 1966], No.21326/67. Heading G3H. A pulse shaper comprises a monostable pure fluid switch in which the power stream issuing from orifice 26 is normally directed to exhaust down leg 32 until a control pulse is applied to inlet 44 whereupon control orifice 38 instantaneously deflects the power stream to the load connected to leg 42 and maintains it there for a period, determined by the time constant of delay 56, 58, after which the control pressure reaches larger orifice 40 and deflects the power stream back to leg 32. With this arrangement the load receives evenly shaped pulses regardless of the pressure or duration of the control pulses, providing these are of longer duration than the time constant. As shown this delay comprises a fluid resistance 56 in series with a fluid capacitance 58, but in the embodiment of Fig.2 (not shown) it comprises a long folded delay line. The pulse shaper is formed as a laminate from grooved plates of metal, glan, ceramic or plastic which are secured together by screws or fusion.
