Abstract
1,160,661. Disilacyclohexadienes and polysiloxanes derived therefrom. DOW CORNING CORP. 9 Jan., 1968 [16 Jan., 1967], No. 1217/68. Headings C3S and C3T. The invention comprises (A) disilacyclohexadienes of the formula where R is H, OH or a hydrolysable group and each R<SP>1</SP> is a C 1-5 alkyl group or a phenyl group, and (B) siloxanes consisting of units of the formula with or without other conventional siloxane units. Compounds (A) are prepared by reacting at a temperature of at least 175‹ C. a compound of the formula where R is alkoxy, with a compound of the formula R<SP>1</SP>C#CR<SP>1</SP> where R<SP>1</SP> is as above. The alkoxy derivatives so prepared may be converted to the halogen derivatives by reacting with an acyl halide or may be hydrolysed with dilute HCl to prepare the hydroxy compounds. The hydrogen substituted compounds are prepared from the halogen compounds by reduction with e.g. lithium aluminium hydride, followed by hydrolysis. Phenoxy groups may replace halogen by reaction with alkali metal phenoxides; sulphides by reaction with H 2 S or a mercaptan; carbamates and aminoxy groups may be introduced by known methods. The siloxanes are prepared by conventional condensation methods.
